About This Feature
Rob Suggs is an Atlanta-based writer and cartoonist. He has authored or collaborated on more than ninety books over a career stretching back to the early eighties, when he was primarily a cartoonist. His work from that period was collected in It Came from Beneath the Pew, Preacher from the Black Lagoon, and The Adventures of Brother Biddle.
For many years, Rob has nurtured the vision of a cartoon history of Christianity, to reach the vast majority of Christians and non-Christians alike who lack any basic understanding of the fascinating journey of this faith. Before now, it would have required a vast workload with almost no financing. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have now made it possible, in the following way:
- Rob entirely researches and writes each episode.
- Rob guides AI image generation to render characters in his established drawing style. This requires much trial and error.
- Rob writes detailed prompts for each panel, with full descriptions of the image, the caption, and all speech.
- Rob makes corrections until each panel is ready.
While the use of AI remains controversial in some contexts, Crossroads is driven by Rob’s own research, writing, visual direction, editing, and repeated correction of every panel. AI makes the scale of the project possible; Rob remains the author and cartoonist behind it.
Even so, Rob would welcome your regular financial assistance in keeping this feature moving forward toward its full twenty-century coverage of our fascinating, wonderful, and funny journey.
